How to get over the weir : (lp)
eighth of the ten described weirs.
The newly repaired weir is divided into four parts: a narrow retarder sluice on the left, the central slanting part where most of the water flows, a gravel sluice, and the mill-race which is protected by bars.
Cowards can carry their boats over on the left side. The engineers evidently didn't even know how to build a proper retarder for boats. A loaded boat gets slowed down, the person at the front gets a thorough splashing, and there is a side current from the right. When the water level is higher, you can go over the weir anywhere without any problems.
