Guide through village and its surrounding.

Nová Ves is a beautiful South Bohemian village, located among hills, surrounded by woods and untouched nature.

The first mention about Nová Ves is from 1379, when it was kept in register of bondage villages of the Rožmberks family. Village was originally created from few lumberjack logs, founded in infinite Šumava woods.

Original inhabitants of village were cutting down the woods and so the first fields and pastures were developed. Lumberjacks transformed themselves into farmers and forest protectors. District was relatively poor and professions of its inhabitants have not changed during centuries. When it was not possible to go working into woods or on fields people did so at home by producing wooden gears, clogs, wooden wheels for carts and other wooden tools. These products spread wide to country by salesmen and craftsmanship of Nové Hrady inhabitants became well known.

Later on, when the profile of village was creating, the chapel and adjoining smithy became significant traits of village.

People who lived here were merry and religious. Preserved habits of jamborees, weddings and funerals prove it. Preserved "Divine torments" welcomed at roads arriving pilgrims. They urged to devote, stop and think. Even the funeral parade, which accompanied dead on their way from village stopped by chapel of the divine torment and here the deceased parted with his village. All four recess chapels are in tally of the State relic care institute as protected objects.
