|The presentation of the town of Český Krumlov during “The Days of Czech Scholars” in Torun|
German tourists rank above Polish tourists in the attendance scale of Czech republic in 2001 (C.O.T. Business 4/2002, page 9). The situation was completely different in the town of Český Krumlov. The statistics released by the Český Krumlov Chateau Management show that visitors from Poland took up the last position. According to the statistics many Polish people are expected to stay in Prague or travel somewhere else rather than to Český Krumlov. It was one of the main reasons why the representatives from Český Krumlov accepted the offer from Mikuláš Koperník University of Torun and went to present tourist possibilities within the frame work of “The Days of Czech Scholars”, 15 – 16 April 2002.
“The Days of Czech Scholars” is a traditional meeting of Polish scholars, – students and schoolmasters, which takes place at one of Polish universities. Such meetings provide unique possibilities how to exchange experience and compare a vast amount of knowledge.
The publicity of Czech Republic is an integral part of “The Days of Czech Scholars” abroad, especially the Czech culture. Students and schoolmasters headed by Dr. Hab. Štefan Grzybovski, a director of The Slavic Philology Institute at Mikuláš Koperník University, Veronika Šmigolová, a Chargé d´ Affaires of Czech Republic and Michal Ryšavý, an embassy vice secretary, dr. Zbyšek Ondřeka, a director of The Czech Centre in Warsaw, dr. Bogdan Major, a chairman of The Borough Council in Torun, representatives from the Department of Education (Czech Republic) and other guests participated the event. “The Days of Czech Scholars” in Torun were arranged by the university in co-operation with the Town Cultural House, and the general public participated besides the above mentioned people.
Media in both countries paid attention to the event (Poland – TV3, Polish Radio and press: Nowošči, Gazeta Pomorska, Gazeta Wyborca. Czech Republic – Czech Radio, Český Krumlov newspaper). They regarded the event as an important contribution towards the knowing the culture of both nations.
After the festive opening of “The Days of Czech Scholars”, they went on a sightseeing tour through the historical centre of Torun, which is included on The List of UNESCO Nature and Culture Heritage as well as in Český Krumlov. The sightseeing tour in the Czech language was led by a student studying Czech language and was very successful.
The next day was concentrated on the presentation of the town of Český Krumlov and the Chateau in the House of Muses in Torun. The lecturers were given by Mgr. Zdena Flašková (The Český Krumlov Developing Fund spol. s r.o.) – the town of Český Krumlov and the Chateau, PhDr. Pavel Slavko (The Český Krumlov Chateau Management) – the Český Krumlov Chateau Theatre, Mgr. Lubor Mrázek (Ipex a.s.) – Official Information System in the region of Český Krumlov.
In addition to the chateau and Český Krumlov region publicity, the publicity of Czech music was also important. Myšrumboys, a vocal-instrumental band performed during “The Evening of Czech Songs”.
The presentation of the town of Český Krumlov in Torun met with a good response. Dr. Zbyšek Ondřeka, a director of the Czech Centre in Warsaw is interested in presenting the town of Český Krumlov at the Czech Centre in Warsaw in the autumn 2002.
The Scholars from Torun have started working on the mutation some of the pages of the Official Information System in the region of Český Krumlov in the Polish language.
