PhDr. Martin Horyna

Born May 21, 1956 in Český Krumlov

After graduating from Gymnázium in Český Krumlov (1975), studied the field of musical sciences – theatre history (1975-1980) at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University, graduated with the thesis work „Music and Musical Life in Český Krumlov in the 15th and 16th Centuries". After graduation in 1980 accepted employment in the State Scientific Library in České Budějovice, where he has woked as head of the music department until the present. In the summers of 1992-93 worked externally teaching the history of church music on the Theological Faculty of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, 1993-96 history of music on the Dept. of Cultural History on the Pedagogical Faculty of the same university. Since middle school, he has devoted his studies to Czech music of the 14th – 17th centuries. During high school studies and later, from 1982-1996, he led various musical groups focused on early music and worked as well as a church organist. The center of his interests is polyphonic compositions of Czech composers of the 16th century, period musical life and musical theory, while his main goal is to edit renowned works.

Musical interpretive activities :
From 1982-1996 leader of chamber ensemble Dyškanti (Czech vocal music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance), 1993-96 choir director and organist of the Church of St. Vitus in Český Krumlov.

  3. liturgical choral monasterial repertoire of South Bohemian graduals and missals from the 14th – 16th centuries.
(with respect to the amount and varying accessibility of sources, none of these catalogues have been completed.)

preparation of editions which would make accessible hitherto unpublished monuments of Czech music and Czech musical theory from the 14th – 16th centuries.
